Objective: Demonstrate how water filtration works using natural materials.
๐งช Materials:
2-liter plastic bottle (empty & clean)
Gravel
Sand (fine and coarse)
Activated charcoal (can be found in pet or aquarium stores)
Coffee filter or cheesecloth
Rubber band
Dirty water (make your own with soil, food coloring, etc.)
Scissors
Clear cups or jars for filtered water
๐งญ Instructions:
Cut the plastic bottle in half. Invert the top half into the bottom like a funnel.
Place the coffee filter or cheesecloth in the funnel neck and secure it with a rubber band.
Layer your materials from bottom to top: charcoal, fine sand, coarse sand, and gravel.
Pour dirty water into the top and observe the filtration process.
Collect the filtered water and compare its clarity to the original.
